Editorial Policies
Ethical standards governing enzyme research publication at JEN.
Commitment to Research Integrity
JEN maintains rigorous ethical standards aligned with Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. These policies ensure integrity, transparency, and fairness throughout the publication process.
All research manuscripts undergo rigorous peer review by qualified enzyme experts. Reviewers are selected based on expertise and absence of conflicts. JEN uses single-blind review where reviewers know author identities but remain anonymous. Decisions are based solely on scientific merit.
Animal Research
Studies using animals require institutional ethics approval. Authors must indicate compliance with relevant guidelines.
Human Samples
Research involving human materials requires ethics approval and informed consent documentation.
Data Integrity
Authors are responsible for accuracy of all presented data. Fabrication and falsification constitute misconduct.
All authors must meet ICMJE criteria: substantial contributions to conception or design, drafting or revising, final approval, and accountability. Gift authorship and ghost authorship are prohibited.
Disclosure Required: All authors must disclose financial or personal relationships that could influence research. This includes funding sources, consulting relationships, and patent interests.
Allegations of misconduct are investigated following COPE flowcharts. Responses may include rejection, retraction, or institutional notification depending on findings.
Authors may appeal rejection decisions within 30 days with detailed justification. The Editor-in-Chief reviews appeals and communicates decisions within 4-6 weeks.
Errors discovered after publication should be reported promptly. Corrections are published as appropriate. Major errors may require retraction following COPE guidelines.
JEN operates transparently, publishing editorial policies, conflict of interest policies, and review approach publicly. We welcome questions about editorial processes.
about editorial processes.Handling editors select reviewers based on expertise, availability, and absence of conflicts. Author suggestions may be consulted but editors make selections independently. We aim for reviewer diversity across institutions.
JEN aims to provide initial decisions within 4-6 weeks of submission. Complex reviews may require additional time. Authors receive status updates during the review process.
Published articles may receive post-publication comments addressing methodology, interpretation, or data concerns. JEN investigates such comments following established guidelines and publishes responses when warranted.
Authors must provide Data Availability Statements indicating where readers can access supporting data. Deposition in public repositories is encouraged. Restrictions due to commercial or privacy concerns should be explained clearly.
Extended datasets, additional analyses, and detailed protocols can be submitted as supplementary materials. These undergo peer review alongside main manuscripts and are permanently archived with assigned DOIs for permanent citation, access and independent reference by other researchers.
JEN encourages authors to provide sufficient methodological detail for experimental replication. Key reagents, protocols, and analytical methods should be described clearly or cite accessible sources.
Authors conducting confirmatory studies may preregister hypotheses and methods. Preregistration demonstrates commitment to rigorous research practices and may strengthen manuscript evaluation.
