Manuscript Preparation

Language and Format

Submit in clear English using Microsoft Word format. Double-space text with consecutive page numbers. Use Times New Roman 12pt or Arial 11pt font consistently.

Title Page

Include full title, running title max 50 characters, all author names with affiliations, corresponding author details with email, ORCID identifiers, word count.

Abstract

Structured abstract max 300 words with Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions for original research. Include parasite species and key findings.

Keywords

Provide 5-7 keywords including parasite species, disease names, geographic regions, and MeSH terms for optimal database indexing.

Structure Guidelines

Original Research: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, References

Epidemiological Studies: Follow STROBE guidelines for observational studies with completed checklist.

Case Reports: Abstract, Introduction, Case Presentation, Discussion, Clinical Lessons, References

Materials and Methods
  • Describe study population, sample collection sites, and consent procedures for human studies
  • Provide institutional review/ethics committee approval details with reference numbers
  • Specify parasite species identification methods including morphological and molecular approaches
  • Detail laboratory protocols for parasite detection, culture, and molecular analysis
  • Describe statistical methods including sample size calculations and software used
  • For field studies, include geographic coordinates and collection dates
Parasite Nomenclature

Use current taxonomic nomenclature. Write genus and species in italics (e.g., Plasmodium falciparum). Include taxonomic authorities on first mention. For newly described species, follow ICZN guidelines and deposit type specimens in recognized collections.

Statistical Requirements

Epidemiological Analysis

Report prevalence with confidence intervals. Use appropriate tests for categorical data. Include odds ratios or risk ratios with 95% CIs for association studies.

Drug Efficacy Studies

Report cure rates, egg reduction rates, or parasitemia clearance using WHO-recommended methods. Include intention-to-treat and per-protocol analyses.

Molecular Studies

Report amplification conditions, primer sequences, and validation data. Include GenBank accession numbers for novel sequences deposited.

Diagnostic Accuracy

Report sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, and AUC against gold standard. Use STARD guidelines for diagnostic accuracy studies.

Ethical Requirements
HUMAN

Human Subjects

  • IRB/Ethics Committee approval mandatory
  • Declaration of Helsinki compliance
  • Written informed consent documented
  • Community consent for endemic studies
  • Treatment provided per local guidelines
DISCLOSURE

Conflicts

  • Pharmaceutical relationships declared
  • Diagnostic company conflicts
  • Funding sources disclosed
  • Patent interests reported
  • Industry collaborations stated
Figures and Tables
  • Resolution: Minimum 300 dpi for images. Use TIFF or high-quality PNG format.
  • Microscopy: Include scale bars, staining methods, and magnification for all parasite images.
  • Phylogenetic Trees: Provide bootstrap values, alignment methods, and evolutionary models used.
  • Maps: Include geographic scale, projection, and data sources for distribution maps.
  • Tables: Submit as editable text with clear headers and statistical annotations.
Sequence Data

All novel nucleotide and protein sequences must be deposited in GenBank, ENA, or DDBJ prior to publication. Provide accession numbers in the manuscript. Whole genome data should be deposited in appropriate public repositories with proper metadata.

References

Use Vancouver citation style. Number references consecutively in order of first citation. Include DOIs for all published works. Verify accuracy particularly for parasite taxonomy and drug nomenclature.

Choose your preferred pathway and share your parasitology research with the world.

We look forward to receiving your manuscript. Your parasitology research contributes to global health and the fight against diseases affecting billions. For questions about submission requirements, manuscript preparation, or laboratory protocols, contact the editorial team. We are committed to supporting researchers from endemic regions and advancing open science.

For studies conducted in endemic settings, describe community engagement and ethical considerations carefully. Authors from low-resource settings are encouraged to contact the editorial office for fee waiver information and manuscript preparation assistance before submission.

We welcome your contribution to the parasitology literature and global health research community.

Submit your research and advance global health knowledge together.

We look forward to your manuscript.
